Oh My Pod!

It would not be a lie if you were to say I was a tad obsessed with air plants. I've come to terms with my obsession. It's really nothing to be ashamed of...especially given that there are so many cool products for air plants. Take for instance, these ceramic hanging air plant pods by Denver-based Etsy seller Mudpuppy. I'm partial to these high-gloss white pods, but they also make a more rustic version.

Tonfisk Design

I'm loving the clean lines and functional design of this plant ladder by Tonfisk, a Finish design company started back in '99 by Tony Alfstrom and Brian Keaney. Apparently, Tonfisk translates to "tuna fish" in Swedish. Odd, right? Well, whatever they call the company, there's no denying that they create some pretty covetable products. Air Supply

A couple of months back, I spotted a DIY tutorial on how to make an air-plant chandelier over at Modish. I liked the general concept, but decided to make mine a little different. Instead of using CB2's whirly hanging candleholders (which I still plan to use to make something similar to this bird feeder), I opted to use their teardrop diamond hanging vases. I purchased black gravel from my local aquarium, some air plants from Capital Nursery, and twine and a ceiling hook from a hardware store. I put it all together and this is what I got:

It's A House Party

Air plants are super popular right now, as are unique ways of displaying them. This may be the most inventive way of "housing" an air plant that I've seen to date. My House Party, a Portland, OR-based company started by husband-and-wife duo Mike and Jessica, creates hand-crafted wooden houses for air plants. The houses come in several styles, and plants are available sans house if you decide you'd rather come up with your own way of displaying the plants. Gives new meaning to the phrase "house plants."

All The Bright Stuff

I was at Home Depot yesterday, buying paint for my kitchen, when I spotted these bright, 15" resin planters. They come in seven vibrant colors and are only $20 each. When the weather gets a little warmer, I'll be heading back for a couple. Now I just have to decide what colors I want.

Wall Flower

These Off the Wall Mini Plant Pots by London-based design duo Thelermont Hupton give new meaning to the term wall flower. Each powder-coated steel pot measures 3.2" x 2.4" x 2.4" - just large enough to house a small plant. Available in orange, white and blue - $26 a pop.

Flora, Finally

As the owner of one plant-eating cat, I have been living (sadly) without plants in my apartment for more than a year. I'll be honest, 2009 was kind of a shitty year and I blame that partially on my lack of flora. Then, my dear friend surprises me with a beautiful terrarium - complete with antique bunny figurines. Problem solved! Plants in my apartment and all Oliver can do is stare at them and drool.

Now that I've discovered the brilliance of the terrarium, I plan to stock my apartment full of them. Etsy seller TortoiseLovesDonkey has some adorable mini terrariums for next to nothing. So cute! She also sells a three-month air plant subscription, where she ships three air plants to you every month for three months. Love it!
